How Book Roulette Works
The rules are delightfully tactile and simple to run in any neighborhood gathering:
1. The Blind Wrap
Every attendee brings a pre-loved book from home that they personally enjoyed. The catch? The book must be completely wrapped in plain brown craft paper or newspaper.
On the outside of the wrapping, the owner writes:
- Three keywords describing the mood or genre (e.g., Cyberpunk, Atmospheric, Philosophical).
- One intriguing quote or hook from the story.
- A content advisory note (if applicable).
- Strictly no titles or author names!
2. The Communal Table & The Roster
When attendees arrive at the meetup venue, all wrapped parcels are placed onto a central table, and each package receives a mystery number. Attendees check in through the SlurpingNoodles live event dashboard.
3. The Derangement Roll
To make sure nobody ends up going home with their own book, our custom matching algorithm (a mathematical derangement) pairs attendees into a randomized sequence.
Each participant rolls dice or triggers the on-screen roulette wheel. When your number comes up, you claim your mystery parcel, unwrap it together, and hear the story of why your gifting partner chose that specific book for the swap.
